New Course: Approaches to Interpersonal Communication Skills, Enthusiasm and Teamwork

Teamwork is often required in both educational and organisational environments. Although there can be some incredibly powerful outcomes and benefits from team-working, it’s not altogether without it’s difficulties. Different personalities, backgrounds, attitudes and behaviours have to come together and work inter-dependently with one another. To achieve great success, it’s imperative that you learn exactly what creates a strong team. You can do this with our latest free self-enrolment mooc: Approaches to Interpersonal Communication Skills, Enthusiasm and Teamwork. Why should I learn about teamwork?

You will probably have found yourself working as part of a team either at school, university, work or any other place where communities of people gather. So you might remember that communication and conflict usually go hand-in-hand in this kind of environment! Additionally, globalisation and businesses operating in different countries means virtual teams are on the increase. This provides another significant aspect to teamwork – very little personal interaction. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to focus on the strengths of each team player, easily handle conflict and be able to communicate professionally and courteously?

What will I be learning?

A team should be able to focus on two things: prime tasks and managing social dynamics. If you can learn to do this you will achieve team success.

There will be 3 category objectives during this course:

Educate about teams, team processes and what determines successful teams

Self-reflect on your prior experiences with team work to assess your strengths and weaknesses as a team player

Provide unique solutions that will help you improve your team performance.

How will this course develop my interpersonal skills?

Focus on your attitude and behaviour – wear a happy face! Say thank you when somebody helps out, and show genuine interest in your peers.

Master your body language – non-verbal communication plays a major role in teamwork and once you are able to understand your own body language you will recognise other people’s and be able to communicate with them more effectively.

Hone your problem-solving skills – whether you’re a leader or a general employee, having the ability to resolve conflicts easily will earn you some serious peer points!

Be a decision maker – learn to take control of a situation. Aside from team working exercises, your boss may ask you to handle tasks alone from time to time. Show them you can do it because you’ve taken the time to learn the subject inside out and you’re easily able to reach a decision.

Course outcomes

You’ll end up with a clear understanding about what makes an efficient and successful team. You’ll learn about team composition, a teams natural life cycle and how to handle conflicts.

The course includes a series of interesting readings, short video lectures, and a few assignments to give you an excellent opportunity to improve your knowledge of teamwork and to develop your teamwork skills.

Who is the course for?

Even if you’re don’t often get the opportunity to work in a team, we still recommend you take this free online course as team working is effectively a tool for communication. You may work on individual tasks most of the time, but seeking new opportunities probably means you have to approach new people more often than you realise. Therefore we encourage anybody who wants to improve their general communication skills to take this course.
